Evaldas Žemaitis - Driver at HAVI Logistics in Lithuania.
Since 2008 Evaldas Žemaitis is a truck driver at HAVI Logistics in Lithuania. He is married and father of a son. Evaldas is very satisfied with his job at HAVI Logistics, not least because it allows him a good work-life balance. “The employees are very friendly to one another, the pay is appropriate and - especially important - the money arrives on time. Every day I look forward to going to work. I never had that before and I have already worked at five different companies."
All employees at HAVI Logistics attend regular training courses. So did Evaldas who also participated in the HAVI Logistics "Drivers Academy" which has been developed especially for drivers and transport planners.
“Not everyone was enthusiastic about the idea of giving up working time and taking part in the Drivers Academy”, says Evaldas Žemaitis. He also started off feeling skeptical: "I expected it would be a waste of time and money. I thought everything around here works really well and I know everything I need to." After just one hour the Lithuanian truck driver realized that he certainly did not know everything and most importantly that a lot of his skills were going unused. For example, at the Drivers Academy he learned how to record driving and rest periods, and to reduce CO2 emissions through a more environmentally friendly driving style. "I have now developed a totally different driving style that is not only more economical but also results in less wear on the brakes, clutch and engine," explains Evaldas.
